Even though the threat of the new variant of Covid Omicron looms, less than 50% of the target population in the district has been fully vaccinated against the deadly virus, the administration has confirmed.

However, single-dose coverage is approaching almost 100%, officials said. As of Thursday, more than 38.75 lakh Covid jabs have been administered in the state’s largest and largest district in terms of area and population.

Deputy Commissioner Varinder Kumar Sharma, who reviewed the progress of the Covid vaccination daily, called on residents of the district to get fully vaccinated against the virus, which will help prevent the possible spread of the third wave of Covid.

“We are also running a door-to-door vaccination program to cover all those who are completely excluded or partially vaccinated so far,” he said, while adding that 14 sites for Covishield and three sites for Covaxin operate daily from 9:30 a.m. to 2:30 p.m. to ensure free vaccinations to eligible people.

Sharing details of the vaccination status, Jagraon’s Additional Deputy Commissioner (ADC) Nayan Jassal, who is the nodal officer for the Covid vaccination campaign in the district, said that 38 75,320 doses of vaccine had been administered until this evening.

She said that of the total target population of 26.32 lakh, up to 26,18,370, which represents 99.48%, took their first shot, while only 12 56,950, or 48.01%, were covered by the second shot. until now.

Official data compiled by the district administration, which is available from The Tribune, showed that 40,253 health workers have so far received their first dose, 20,484 both; 1,35,938 frontline workers one shot, 44,753 both; 12 23,735 people aged 18 to 44 single Covishield jab, 5 63,845 both; 2,55,714 aged 18 to 44 a single injection of Covaxin, 1,14,718 both; 6,40,375 people aged 45-60 first dose, 3,214,460 both; So far 3,222,355 people over the age of 60 have received a single injection, while 1,91690 have received both injections.

The breakdown of immunization categories indicated that a maximum of 34 78 339 people were vaccinated in health facilities or government camps, followed by 2,788,187 in private facilities and 1,18,794 in industrial sites.

Rush for the second dose

Following the Omicron threat, most of those who had avoided their second dose of vaccine are now rushing to get their full immunization in the district. This is clear from the fact that of the total 6,596 people vaccinated on Thursday, 5,208 received a second dose, while the remaining 1,388 received their first vaccine in Ludhiana.
