More than half of the country’s population has fully tackled COVID 19, Health Minister informs

On Monday, Union Health Minister Mansukh Mandaviya informed that more than 50% of India’s population had been fully vaccinated against COVID-19. The health minister said vaccinating 130 crore people in the country was a big challenge compared to other less populous countries. However, thanks to the efforts of health workers, 88% of the first dose and 58% of the second dose were administered in the country.

While addressing the Upper House regarding the situation due to the Omicron variant (B.1.1.529) in the country, the Minister of Health informed that India has reported 161 cases of the novel variant of the coronavirus. According to an article in the Hindustan Times, he said, “Today all states and UTs have sufficient quantities of vaccine, 17 crore doses are available with them. Our manufacturing capacity has increased. Today India has the capacity to manufacture 31 crore vaccine doses each month. Over the next 2 months, it will drop to 45 crore doses per month again. “

In addition, he added that the situation is being monitored with experts. They built a buffer stock of important drugs with the first and second waves of the deadly virus in mind.

“To protect against Omicron, we have issued SOPs (Standard Operating Procedures) for travelers coming from overseas. I myself have interacted with the States, we are constantly evaluating this variant with the team of experts, ”he added.

Meanwhile, the cumulative number of doses administered in the country’s largest immunization campaign stood at 1,37,67 20,359, according to the health ministry.
