South of Mysuru to get water from Kapila | Mysore News

Mysuru: People in southern Mysuru will soon get drinking water from the Kapila River. Urban Development Minister Byrathi Basavaraj on Friday gave the green signal for the Rs 150 crore project proposed by the Karnataka Urban Water Supply and Drainage Board.
During the meeting held at MUDA, KUWSDB placed the proposal on increasing Kabini bulk water supply scheme from 60 MLD to 180 MLD second phase works with an estimated cost of Rs 150 crore.
Deputy Executive Engineer of KUWSDB, Asif, said that through the scheme, potable water will be supplied to MCC and schemes developed by MUDA and private schemes.
The project will provide drinking water to Kuvempu Nagar, Hosahundi, Kalalawadi, Dhanagalli, Extended Vijayanagar 4th Stage, Dattagalli, Bogadi, BEML Layout 2nd Stage, Deepanagar, Kergalli and other areas. Currently, 66 MLD is drawn from Kabini having a deficit of 120 MLD. The project will fill the drinking water supply deficit.
“According to the population and water demand survey in the MUDA command area, the command area of ​​Kabini is 122.90 km2 with 58 inhabitants per hectare. By 2023 the population will be 6.76 lakh, by 2038 it will be 10.07 lakh and by 2053 the population will be 14.86 lakh. The demand for drinking water will be 114.09 MLC in 2023 will be 169.89 in 2038 and 250.68 MLD in 2053 in the Kabini command area,” he said.
KUWSDB Executive Engineer Siddanayaka said that after the technical committee approves the project, the council will send the project details to the government and start the works immediately.
Waive interest on water bills, minister urged
During the meeting, MP Tanveer Sait urged Minister Byrathi Basavaraj to take the decision to waive interest amount on consumers’ pending water bill. Byrathi said he would discuss the issue with the chief minister. “We can waive interest, but the concern is that consumers may continue to demand waivers even in the future,” he said.
When MP Pratap Simha, MPs L Nagendra and SA Ramadas raised the issue of water leaks and illegal connections of water pipes which lead to loss of water and revenue, Minister Basavaraj directed the authorities of the KUWSDB and MCC to submit report on water supply and loss.
Byrathi Basavaraj said he would discuss waiving interest worth Rs 73 crore on water bills which amount to Rs 150 crore, with Chief Minister Basavaraj Bommai.
Basavaraj, during a progress review meeting at the Mysuru City Corporation (MCC), said, “The decision to waive interest on pending dues has to be taken in all 10 municipal corporations in Karnataka. The matter will be discussed with the CM, and a decision that is in the best interest of the people will be made. »
Meanwhile, the minister also ordered the MCC to purchase high-voltage LED bulbs for streetlights for better lighting. He also requested officials from MCC and Mysore Urban Development Authority (Muda) to repair and replace the old street lamps on the Outer Ring Road (ORR).
Basavaraj assured MCC that funds to the tune of Rs 379 crore would be disbursed to undertake works on the underground drainage in Vijayanagar, which was damaged following incessant rains in the city last year.

Jal Bhavan
Byrathi Basavaraj on Friday inaugurated the Jal Bhavan, which is the administrative block of the Karnataka Urban Water Supply and Drainage Board, built at an estimated cost of Rs 18.4 crore. The five-story structure was built in the Indo-Saracenic style, to visually align it with the city’s other heritage structures. The structure will house offices, which will in turn house the water supply and drainage board authorities which will have jurisdiction over eight districts.
