New Delhi, September 30 (PTI) Sixty-nine percent of the country’s adult population has received at least one dose of the COVID-19 vaccine and 25 percent have taken both doses, the government said on Thursday.

He also said that increasing population density increases the chances of the spread of COVID-19 and that it will be prudent to avoid non-essential travel and observe the festivities at a low-key pace.

The government said 64.1% of COVID-19 vaccine doses were given in vaccination centers in rural areas and 35% in urban areas.

A total of 67.4 lakh doses (about 0.88 pc) were administered in vaccination centers not labeled as rural / urban, he said.

He said 59.66% of the total COVID-19 cases last week were reported in Kerala and the state has more than a lakh of active cases.

The government also stressed that the number of COVID-19 tests has not decreased and that 15 to 16 lakh tests are carried out every day in the country.

Eighteen districts report a weekly Covid positivity rate between five and ten percent and 30 districts report a weekly positivity rate of more than 10 percent, he said.

Regarding Zydus Cadila’s COVID-19 vaccine, the government has stated that ZyCoV-D is a three-dose needle-free vaccine and that it will be priced different from the vaccines currently in use.
