Rajkot: Citing a low number of new cases of Covid-19 and a high rate of vaccination among the city’s population, the Rajkot Chamber of Commerce and Industry (RCCI) demanded that wearing a mask no longer be compulsory .
Saurashtra’s supreme trade and industry body has urged the government to stop collecting “mask” fines from violators in order to end the harassment of ordinary people.
As healthcare professionals around the world advocate for the use of the mask to curb the spread of the coronavirus, the professional body made a representation to Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Chief Minister Bhupendra Patel to call for the rule to be lifted of the mandatory mask.
In its letter, the professional body said that Covid is totally under state control. The letter also cites the recent statement by AIIMS Director Randeep Guleria that there is very less chance of a third wave of Covid-19 in India.
The letter also says that a significant population in the state has been vaccinated and the number of new positive cases is negligible. He says that looking at the current scenario, wearing a mask for a whole day could prove harmful to health. People cannot breathe fresh air because of the masks and it can lead to other illnesses, he says.
