Dallas, Nov. 08, 2021 (GLOBE NEWSWIRE) – The North Texas Food Bank (NTFB) hosted a special event at its Perot Family Campus in Plano on Saturday, November 6, 2021, to recognize HungerMitao’s sponsorship of a distribution truck food through a commitment of $ 150,000 over two years. HungerMitao, which means “end hunger,” is a Native American community initiative that supports local food banks. In the four years since its launch, this volunteer-led movement has enabled nearly 12 million meals for the NTFB and more than 40 million meals nationwide for the Feeding America food bank network.

Additionally, members of the American Indian community of DFW volunteered at the Perot Family Campus distribution center, sorting and packing food for transport to the NTFB Food Network branches from 9 a.m. at 11 a.m., before the recognition event.

“We are very grateful for the support given to community initiatives like HungerMitao that recognize the growing problem of hunger and seek ways to contribute to organizations that are tackling this complex problem,” said Trisha Cunningham, President and CEO from the North Texas Food Bank. “The HungerMitao movement has provided an unprecedented level of support by providing millions of meals in North Texas. ”

This support is the result of galvanizing and activating the North American Indian community of North Texas around the cause of food insecurity. The community actively supports NTFB’s work through advocacy, volunteering, and the donation of essential food and funds. The $ 150,000 sponsorship will provide 450,000 additional nutritious meals for families, seniors and children in the 13 counties served by the NTFB.

“We are excited and eager to unveil the HungerMitao co-branded truck with the North Texas Food Bank. This traveling billboard will show how the Indian community in America continues to help NTFB improve people’s access to nutritious food, ”said Raj G. Asava, co-founder of HungerMitao. “This will serve as a tactical demonstration and further inspire the American Indian community to support the North Texas Food Bank. There is enormous food insecurity in North Texas, but we can all participate, unify and amplify our impact, ”added Anna Asava, co-founder of HungerMitao.
