Bhumi Pednekar had Rs 13 lakh loan to repay after failing film school: ‘He was the biggest jhatka’
Bhumi Pednekar has already spoken about how she was “kicked” out of her film school. Now, she’s revealed the one big issue she was facing when this happened.
Bhumi said she had to repay a loan of Rs 13 lakh that she took out to pay for her university studies. After being evicted, she found herself without a source of income and was afraid of how she would come out of the mess.
Bhumi told Deccan Chronicle in a interview that to become an actress, she had to overcome many obstacles. “I first tried to convince my parents that I wanted to be an actor. I finally found the courage to talk to them about it. They weren’t very happy and I think they were protecting me. So I decided to join a film school. The fees were high, so I took out a loan, ”she said.
“I failed film school not because I wasn’t a good actor, but because I wasn’t disciplined enough and he was the biggest jhatka. I was like, I messed up – and I had this Rs 13 lakh loan on my head – that’s a huge amount. She then started looking for a job and got one with Yash Raj Films as a casting assistant. She attended auditions for several actors and eventually tried it out herself with Dum Laga Ke Haisha. The film has earned him a permanent place as one of the best young actors in the film industry. Bhumi has worked in over a dozen films since.

Recently, Bhumi also opened up about his film school experience on No Filter Neha. “I was kicked out, I didn’t give up. They asked me to leave. Because imagine, you got kicked out of film school, I was like it was the worst. Because my participation was so low, I didn’t go. It was horrible. But, I recommend that if someone really wants to study cinema, there is a certain age for it. Don’t do it at 16-17, because you’re not going to take it seriously, ”she said.
Bhumi’s last outing was Dolly Kitty Aur Woh Chamakte Sitare. She will be seen next in her first solo film, Durgavati.
