India reports 3.37 lakh new cases, 9,550 fewer than yesterday

Delhi and Mumbai continued to witness a drop in Covid cases on Friday, recording 10,756 and 5,008 one-day cases respectively. As the positivity rate fell to 18.04% in the nation’s capital, Mumbai saw daily cases fall for the third day in a row.

As for the death toll, Delhi recorded 38 deaths from Covid-19 in the past 24 hours, while Mumbai recorded 12 fatalities. As of Thursday, Delhi had reported 12,306 Covid cases and 43 deaths, while Mumbai had reported 5,708 cases and 12 deaths.

Meanwhile, the Union Health Ministry has said the isolation facility will not be mandatory for international travelers arriving from at-risk countries from January 22. In a statement, the ministry also said they would still be required to undergo a seven-day home quarantine. “If they test positive, their samples should be sent for genomic testing to the INSACOG laboratory network. They should be processed/isolated according to established standard protocol,” he added.

In southern India, as Karnataka moved to lift the weekend curfew, Tamil Nadu Chief Minister MK Stalin announced there would be a full lockdown in the state on January 23 due to the increase in Covid-19 cases.
