RMC has launched calls for tenders for the laying of DI pipelines

Rajkot: There is good news for residents of the newly merged areas of Rajkot Municipal Corporation (RMC). The town hall’s waterworks service aims to connect these districts to water within a year.
The hydraulic works department has issued calls for tenders for the laying of a ductile iron (DI) pipeline in these areas and work is expected to begin within the next three to four months.
Officials from the hydraulic works department said tenders have been issued for the laying of a DI pipeline in Nageshwar, Jamnagar Road, Vardhman Nagar, Raiyadhar, FCI Godown Road and other areas. The total cost of the project is Rs 26 crore.
A population of around 70,000 people will benefit from the project. Madhapar, Ghanteshwar and Manharpar merged with the western area of RMC a year ago. These newly merged areas still lack many basic facilities.
Some households receive piped water through the old gram panchayat network while the majority of the population depends on groundwater and water tankers. Nageshwar and Vardhman Nagar, among the fastest growing regions, rely heavily on groundwater.
Pushkar Patel, chairman of the standing committee said the offers will be approved by the standing committee. “Once the pipeline is laid, these areas will be connected to RMC’s main grid,” Patel said.
Devang Mandkad, chairman of the hydraulic works committee, said: “We aim to provide drinking water to these areas through our network within a year.
