India on Sunday reported 30,256 new coronavirus infections in the past 24 hours as the country seeks to reopen the country to foreign tourists. The active cases in the country stood at 3,18,181, he said.
India, which has so far administered 80.43 crore in doses of the vaccine, is seeking to protect the population and welcome tourists again.
The first five lakh foreign tourists will be issued visas for free in a bid to revive the tourism, hospitality and aviation sectors hard hit by the COVID-19 pandemic since March 2020, when a national lockdown was announced.
Senior officials from the Union’s Ministry of the Interior are deliberating with all stakeholders on the date and modalities for opening the country to foreign tourists.
